Fishers of Men

18 While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Fishers of Men
The Word will be the net that Peter and Andrew use to catch men. The Word will capture men alive. What means death for a fish means life for you. To be caught by the Word, the Lord of Life himself, is to be plucked out of death and darkness and placed into the light and life of Christ. The faith that saves us is preached into our hearts. This net, this Word, makes all things new. This net infuriates the devil. He will do all he can to mess with the preaching and the means of grace. This devil is defeated by that very Word that he tries to thwart. The Word made flesh has crushed the devil's head and has made you alive. Amen, so shall it be forever.
