To Your Advantage
“I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. 5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
John 16:4b-7

To Your Advantage
The only way to be strengthened for this life is to have the Holy Spirit. Jesus encourages his disciples by promising the Holy Spirit. This Spirit is the great planter of faith and the sanctifier of man. He is your helper in all things. Jesus must depart and the Holy Spirit will come. But this Holy Spirit brings the means of grace to you in the preaching of the Word and the Sacraments given. Yes, sorrow will fill your heart. There will be things that scare you. You will be attacked. Your faith will battle against sin and temptation. So be it. You have nothing to fear. The Lord freely gives you his Holy Spirit in these times. The Lord freely clothes you in his righteousness and in the hope of life eternal. There is no enemy that can strip your salvation from you. God dwelling in you and with you to the end of time.
