40 He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained. 41 And many came to him. And they said, “John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.” 42 And many believed in him there.

In the name of the Father and the + Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophets’ words. God never sends his Word without completing it and fulfilling it. John prepared the way for the Christ by his preaching and his baptizing. John’s preaching points to this Jesus. John prepares the way of the Lord so that all people may see the salvation of the Lord. This is the salvation of the whole world. This Jesus is the One who rescues and makes new. He is the fulfillment of Moses’ Word, Elijah’s Word, and all the prophets. So, then faith comes by hearing! Hearing the Word of Christ.
