31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

Abide in My Word
There is a full-on war against the truth in the world. The devil twists and turns the truth with his lies and deception. Our own hearts want to have a personal truth, but the truth is external to our hearts. Our hearts enslave us to sin and death. The truth is not personal or subjective. The truth stands up to lies and sets people free. Jesus is this Truth. He is the Way. He is the Life. It matters not where you come from and what your pedigree is. Every human needs to be rescued and set free. Jesus pays this ransom. Jesus pays with his own blood. He washes you and clothes you in righteousness. The eternal Son of the Father makes you free by his own sacrifice. He makes you like himself. You are children of God and heirs of eternal life. The truth belongs to you. It sustains you.
