Neither Do I Condemn You

7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. 9 But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10 Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

Neither Do I Condemn You
The accusers stood ready, stones in hand, to end a woman’s life. Jesus stooped down, silent, then spoke words that turned their judgment back upon themselves: “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.” One by one, they left. The woman remained, not innocent, but forgiven. Our Lord’s words cut to the heart: “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.” Here is the Gospel: Christ does not overlook sin, nor does He excuse it. He takes it upon Himself. At the cross, the stones of judgment fall, not on us, but on Him. The innocent One is condemned in our place, so that the guilty may go free. We, like the woman, stand exposed before God, yet clothed in Christ’s righteousness. Freed by His mercy, we are called to walk in newness of life, forgiven and redeemed.
