Give Us this Bread Always

32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”

Give Us this Bread Always
It was not Moses that gave the people of Israel bread from heaven. It was not Moses who saved the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt. It was the Heavenly Father that saved and sustained. And it is the same Heavenly Father that has sent down the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ, for the salvation of the world. The same God sustains and nourishes you. He has brought you out of your sin and sent the Means of Grace to you. You are kept holy by God’s Work in your life. You are sustained in this holy life by the preaching of the Gospel and by the sacraments given. The Holy Spirit grants us a clean heart that longs, like the people gathered in our text, saying, “Sir, give us this Jesus always.”
