Equal with the Father

18 This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
John 5:18

Equal with the Father
The Jewish leaders raged because Jesus called God His Father, making Himself equal with God. They understood what many still deny: Jesus is no mere teacher or prophet but true God, begotten of the Father from eternity. This claim drew their hatred and led Him to the cross, where the One who is fully God and fully man bore the wrath of God for the world’s sin. On Golgotha, the glory hidden in His suffering was revealed: only the eternal Son could offer a sacrifice of infinite worth. His crucifixion was not defeat but the very triumph of God, reconciling us to the Father. When doubts arise, the cross silences every question. There hangs the proof that the Son, equal with the Father, willingly humbled Himself for you. And because He lives, you live, redeemed, forgiven, and held in the Father’s everlasting love.
