Resting at the Well

4 And he had to pass through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.

Resting at the Well
Our Lord Jesus, weary from His journey, sat by Jacob’s well at Sychar. How striking that the very Son of God, through whom all things were made, becomes tired and thirsty! Yet here we see not weakness, but love in action. Jesus enters our broken world, taking on human frailty, to seek and to save the lost. Jesus’ weariness underscores His true humanity. It also points us to the deeper thirst He would endure on the cross, thirsting not just for water, but for our salvation. At Calvary, Jesus bore the scorching wrath of God for our sin, crying, “I thirst,” that we might never thirst for righteousness again. So He meets us in our daily exhaustion, offering living water that refreshes soul and body. Come, rest in the Savior who knows your weariness and has conquered sin and death by His cross for you.
