4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

Seal the Forehead
Daniel receives instruction to shut up the words and seal the book. The Words of God are sealed for you. But the Lord himself also puts a seal upon you. He marks his own with his name. This is the mystery of Holy Baptism. Your God places his name upon you in the waters of Baptism and claims you as his own. He puts his cross upon your heart and your forehead to mark you as one redeemed by Christ the crucified. In the face of all your enemies, in the face of God’s enemies, you are marked as a child of God. You have been made holy by your God. He is with you even to the end of the age. He comes again to gather you home to himself. In him, knowledge increases, wisdom is ours, and we live with God forever.
