Such Is The Confidence

4 Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Such Is The Confidence
The waves of this world toss us around. The only confidence we have is the Lord Christ and His work for us to save us. We have no sufficiency in and of ourselves, we need Jesus to intervene, to break in, and to interrupt our lives. He does this by the power of his Holy Spirit. That Spirit calls by the Gospel, enlightens with heavenly gifts, and makes holy. God sends preachers and teachers of the Word into the world to proclaim the foundation that saves, gives life, and gathers and binds together. The Spirit alone can grant these gifts. Our flesh is unable to do it on its own. Thus the work of the cross is ours and the victory over the grave in the resurrection of Jesus is ours. This is our confidence and we are content.
