Signs

The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” And he left them, got into the boat again, and went to the other side.

Signs
Often, I have heard people lament that God doesn’t give signs and miracles like He used to in the Bible. That if He would just do things like that now it would be so easy to believe and trust in Him. Yet, when we look to the Bible, the people were saying the same thing. Even though the Pharisees have already rejected Jesus, they still try to demand that He prove His identity. Those today who hold disdain for Christ continue to do as much now, denying God but at the same time hurling demands for proof toward Him. But you dear Christians believe, and as believers, you know that God is real, and you see the depth of His love in Christ’s suffering and the glory of His promises in the resurrection. Let us never forget the signs the Lord still gives us. When we hunger for a sign of His presence and power, may we focus our eyes on the empty tomb. Make this the lasting, satisfying sign that opens our eyes to Him.
