Family

Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”

Family
It is so often the case that those who are closest to us, our family, can be our harshest critics. They know us the best and have grown up with us. It is often hard for them and us to see each other as anything other than a younger sibling or bossy cousin. Jesus’ family seemed to be no different. Even as Jesus seeks to expand His ministry by appointing and sending 12 apostles, His family comes and tries to make Him stop what He is doing. It is ironic that those who think they know Jesus best are trying to stop Him from fulfilling His mission! But the Lord and His mission are not overcome even by His family. He willingly faced death and conquered it for us. In Him is our hope of eternal life. The Lord overcomes our fear when we do not understand His plans. He focuses us instead on His call to follow and His gracious promise to lead.
