The Good News
With the very first words of his Gospel, St. Mark is making a very profound statement. Every word of this introduction is important to our understanding of the Gospel of St. Mark. He is not simply writing a biography of an important person or retelling a historical account of events that have transpired in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. It is clear that St. Mark is declaring his own faith in His Savior. He is also carried along by the Holy Spirit, presenting to us, the reader, the truth of who Jesus is. He is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This is the Good News that we all need to hear. This is the only truth that matters and the only truth that will set you free. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and He is the Savior of the world. We are sinners who need a Savior. St. Mark is giving us that Savior in his gospel. Thanks be to God for this wonderful Word of truth.
