It Depends on God
What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

It Depends on God
What a great and wonderful message for you and me. Our salvation does not depend upon us and our works. It does not depend on human will or exertion. Like John says in the first chapter of his Gospel, "He gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor the will of the flesh nor of the will of the man, but of God." Your God has not given you what you deserve. He has turned you from your sin and death, released the chains of the devil, and given you the gifts of the Son of God. For all this it is our duty to thank and praise, serve and obey him. The mercy of our God continues, too. He keeps giving daily bread. He continues to support all the needs of this body and soul and life. He will not forsake you. He will not leave you. He puts his cross before your eyes and he promises to come back for you. Come, Lord Jesus, come quickly.
