Released from the Law

Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

Released from the Law
There is no escaping the Law and its consequences on our own. As the Law confronts fallen human nature, it accuses and condemns, revealing sinfulness and the unreachable standard of God’s holiness. For many who are lost in unbelief they are driven to sin and despair by the Law. But for the believer, those of us whom the Holy Spirit has given faith to know Christ as our Savior, we give thanks to God, in Christ that we have died to the Law. Now, we need not live in bondage and fear, but in a new life in the Spirit. May the Holy Spirit fill us with faith and new life, so that we may bear the fruit of love for our Father in heaven.
