The Ten Lepers

On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

The Ten Lepers
He's on his way to Jerusalem when the outcasts unite their voices together and pray for mercy. They don’t know that they are praying to the God that created them. We often times don’t know either. We stumble around in the dark, not realizing what we are stumbling on. But this Jesus comes to where we are in our sickness and pain. He comes down to deliver. This is no other god that cares to come down and to rescue. This is the only God. He comes down in the flesh of man and takes on our impossible task perfectly, pays our debt completely, and rejoices with us in the life he gives us. Their sickness had united them, but when Jesus healed the lepers, it was the faith of the Samaritan that united him to Jesus. Your faith unites you to him, too. It unites you to his cross and bloody death, it unites you to his resurrection and life, and it unites you to his kingdom and love. Rise and go—your faith has saved you.
