“And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

The Work of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit calls you by the Gospel, enlightens you with his gifts, sanctifies, and keeps you in the true faith. He has been sent to do this. He wants no glory. He always speaks the Word he has been given to speak. He points us to Jesus. This Jesus is the only way. The Jesus that the Holy Spirit brings is the only Savior of the world. Dismiss the Spirit and you dismiss the Savior. If you ignore his Gospel and shove away his gifts, there is no way for you to be saved. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. There is no other way to the Father. There is no other way to heaven. But this Jesus is available only through the work of the Holy Spirit. You need him. Apart from his calling, enlightening, gathering, and sanctifying, there is nothing. There is no forgiveness, no life, and no salvation. Thanks be to God that we have received this Jesus. We have the full weight and glory of his cross and his resurrection because the Holy Spirit has delivered it to us. Remember, the Holy Spirit goes nowhere without the Word of God, and you will never find the Word of God without the Spirit using it. The two go together so you can know Jesus. He fills your lips with that Word. He guards and protects you with that Jesus. He daily and richly forgives all your sins by giving you Jesus.
