And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

Too often, we Christians can feel like we are failures when it comes to our faith. We hear of the great and mighty things the heroes of the Bible did and wonder why we aren’t doing the same things, or at least attempting to do them. Jesus sent out the twelve apostles to preach the Gospel, heal diseases, and cast out evil spirits. We modern-day Christians hear of such wondrous power and consider how few miracles we have experienced, and easily begin to feel inadequate for the service to which God calls us. However, we possess the same hope and eternal life through Christ crucified. We know that wherever that Gospel is delivered and received, the greatest healing follows. Our loving Father bestows on us His grace, with abundant blessings. And in His Word guides and leads us in His paths of righteousness so that we may know and understand His care and love. And this same Jesus gave His live so we might live, and in that truth, we find our worth. In that truth, we go forth in joy to share His Good News.
