Family

Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd. And he was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see you.” But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”

Family
What is family? Of course, there is the family we are born into, but there is also the family we choose. Those individuals that are close to us, whom we love like family. Some of our “chosen” families are superficial; maybe it’s my family of fans who cheer for my favorite team, or maybe it’s my family I graduated high school or college with. Some are deeper; those who served in the military or in law enforcement know this type of family. But there is another family that is more important and real than any other—the Church. By faith, we inherit the kingdom of God. Yet, fewer and fewer people break away from earthly cares and make time for their Church family and the eternal fellowship God bestows through it. Those attending the Lord’s Table, however, enjoy an eternal family fellowship and a foretaste of the feast that goes on forever in God’s presence. We thank God that He has shown us the need for both our earthly and Church families. By His Holy Spirit, may our commitment to both our temporal and eternal relations flourish.
