Jesus Is Born

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

Jesus is Born
The fullness of time happens at the right time, in the midst of the exact time of Augustus’ reign. The Peace of God is born during the Pax Romana (The Peace of Rome). God used the government to move his little holy family from Galilee to Judea, to a little town of great significance. The Christ is born in Bethlehem. He comes in great humility. He comes to lowly people to save those under the Law. He comes and must suffer. They lay him in a manger because there is no room, but he comes that there would be room for you and me in heaven. And so it is that the God that created the heavens and the earth is born of woman, has flesh and blood, and becomes one of us. The manger sits in the shadow of the cross. He is born that he would die that he would live again. That is the way for you and me. This baby of lowly state grows up to be handed over to the gentiles and to be mocked, spit upon, flogged, and crucified. All this he does so that your sin would be destroyed, and the devil’s head would be crushed. He rises again that you would have life and he would live it with you. Thanks be to God he won the victory.
