Boast In The Lord
23 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”
25 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh— 26 Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and all who dwell in the desert who cut the corners of their hair, for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.”

Boast In The Lord
Only the Lord practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness. Our works are all tainted with rebellion, selfishness, and division. The human heart veils itself in outward appearances, but inwardly, it is a dark and ravenous hole. Fallen man is lost even as we set out running away from God and his Word. Our hearts of stone need to be removed and new hearts of flesh, temples of the Holy Spirit, need to be built by our God. Only when he comes to us, calls us, enlightens us, and keeps us does this happen. So it is that the living God has called us with his very Word and granted to us the gifts of the cross. Forgiveness and life and salvation are ours by the work of Jesus for you. Our hearts have been changed out. We are clothed in heavenly garments of righteousness.
