A Kingdom Not From Here

33 So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” 35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”

A Kingdom Not From Here
Pilate’s question cuts to the heart of every age: Are You a king? Jesus does not deny His kingship, yet He redefines it. His reign does not arise from earthly power, political maneuvering, or violence. This kingdom is not sourced from this world, even though it is very much for this world. Jesus stands before Pilate not as a failed revolutionary but as the true King who rules by truth. This kingship reaches its throne in the cross. There, Jesus does not summon legions or defend Himself. Instead, He gives Himself. His kingdom advances not by the sword but by sacrifice, not by coercion but by confession. At the cross, the King is crowned with thorns, enthroned in weakness, and glorified in death. For us, this is comfort. Our hope is not tied to the rise or fall of earthly kingdoms. We belong to a reign secured by Christ’s blood, a kingdom that cannot be shaken because it was established through the cross and confirmed in the resurrection.
