It Is Finished
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

It Is Finished
The hour had come. The work was accomplished. The Lord of life has taken your sins upon his shoulders and paid the penalty for you. The fullness of time had come, and the age of sin and death and the power of the devil is ended in this one moment. Jesus wins the victory. It is finished and remains finished forever. There is no second reign for death. There is no power ever granted to the devil. These things are judged and destroyed for you. This Jesus does it on the cross. Your God and Savior dies on the cross. He gives up his spirit and, in so doing, makes your enemies his footstool. You are made alive in his resurrection. This is the God who does all things for you. He does them well. All things are finished, and you have nothing to worry about.
