Given, Kept, and Sent

6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.
John 17:6-8

Given, Kept, and Sent
In His high priestly prayer, Jesus speaks not of human achievement but of divine gift. The Father has given Him a people, and He has made the Father known to them. Faith does not arise from insight or effort; it is created by the Word Jesus speaks and keeps. Those who belong to Him are marked by receiving that Word as truth and trusting that the Son truly comes from the Father. This knowing is not mere information. It is relational, born where God gives Himself. That gift reaches its fullness at the cross, where the Son who was sent is lifted up for the life of the world. There, the Father’s name is revealed most clearly, not as distant power, but as mercy poured out in blood and water. To be Christ’s is to be kept by His Word and gathered beneath His cross. We live not by what we give to God, but by what God has given to us in His Son.
