Do Whatever He Tells You

2 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Do Whatever He Tells You
At Cana’s wedding, Mary turns to Jesus with a simple plea: “They have no wine.” His reply sounds like a rebuke, but it is really a reminder that His hour, the hour of the cross, has not yet come. Still, Mary instructs the servants, “Do whatever He tells you.” What profound trust! Mary rests in Jesus’ wisdom and timing, confident that He will act rightly. Here, even as He turns water into wine, Jesus gives a sign pointing beyond the feast to the greater joy of His saving work. On the cross, His true “hour” arrives, where He pours out His blood, the finest wine of forgiveness, for you. In your own moments of lack and need, learn from Mary. Trust Jesus’ word, even when His answer is hidden or seems delayed. He knows what you truly need and, in His time, He provides, most of all, life and salvation through His cross.
