The Door of Life

7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
John 10:7-10

The Door of Life
Jesus calls Himself the Door, the only entrance to safety, life, and peace. In a world full of thieves who promise freedom but deliver death, Christ alone opens the way to salvation. His words echo the Old Testament image of God as the true Shepherd who guards His people. To enter through Christ is to receive forgiveness and life, not through our own works, but through His cross. There, the Door was shut upon Him, He bore our sin and death, so that it might be forever open to us. Every other “door” this world offers leads only to loss. But in Christ crucified and risen, the sheep find pasture, protection, and peace. Through Word and Sacrament, He continually draws us into His fold, that we might have life, and have it abundantly, in the wounds of our crucified and living Shepherd.
