The Voice of the Shepherd

10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
John 10:1-3

The Voice of the Shepherd
Jesus speaks of Himself as the true Shepherd whose sheep hear His voice and follow Him. The gatekeeper opens for Him, not for thieves or strangers. This image reminds us that Christ alone enters rightly into the fold of God’s people, not by deception or force, but through the Father’s will. He calls His sheep by name, for He has redeemed them by His own blood. Jesus’ “voice” is His Word, the Gospel that calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies His Church. By this Word, we are brought out of darkness into His marvelous light. At the cross, that voice spoke most clearly: “It is finished.” There, the Shepherd laid down His life for the sheep. We know His voice because it leads us always to the forgiveness purchased at Calvary, where our Shepherd became the Lamb for our salvation.
