Sin No More

12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.”
John 5:12-14

Sin No More
When Jesus healed the lame man, He sought him out again and said, “Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.” His words were not a threat but a merciful call to repentance. Physical healing was not the greater gift; forgiveness was. Jesus links our deepest need to His saving work. He did not come merely to make bodies walk but to make sinners whole. The “worse” that could happen is separation from God, the just consequence of sin. Yet, at the cross, Christ bore that separation for us. He was stricken, abandoned, and cursed in our place so that we might stand forgiven. In His Word and Sacraments, Jesus seeks us out still, not to condemn, but to restore. Freed by His forgiveness, we walk, not away from Him, but in the new life He gives.
