The Voice That Points to the Lamb

19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” 21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22 So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23 He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

The Voice That Points to the Lamb
John the Baptist knew who he wasn’t. He wasn’t the Christ, Elijah, or the Prophet. But he knew who he was, a voice crying in the wilderness. His task was not to exalt himself, but to prepare hearts for the One coming after him. We often want to be the center of attention, to be thought wise or influential. But John reminds us that the Christian life is not about drawing attention to ourselves, it’s about pointing to Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. John's voice found purpose in proclaiming Christ crucified. So does yours. In a world longing for hope, your confession of Christ crucified and risen brings life. You don’t need to be the Savior. You just need to echo the voice that prepares the way for Him. That voice still rings out today, from pulpits, from homes, from hearts made bold by grace.
