Refined in the Fire

33 And the wise among the people shall make many understand, though for some days they shall stumble by sword and flame, by captivity and plunder. 34 When they stumble, they shall receive a little help. And many shall join themselves to them with flattery, 35 and some of the wise shall stumble, so that they may be refined, purified, and made white, until the time of the end, for it still awaits the appointed time.
Daniel 11:33-35

Refined in the Fire
God does not promise His people a life free of suffering. In Daniel’s vision, the wise and faithful endure persecution, captivity, and death. Yet, even in suffering, God is at work. “Some of the wise shall stumble,” the angel says, “so that they may be refined, purified, and made white.” Affliction is not a sign of God’s absence, but of His refining love. He disciplines and strengthens His saints for the days ahead. This refining reaches its fulfillment in the cross of Christ. There, Jesus suffered not for His own sin, but for ours. Through His death, He purifies us, once for all. In Him, we are made white by His blood. When persecution or trial comes, we cling to Christ crucified. Our suffering does not separate us from Him. Rather, we are united with Him, sharing in His cross now, that we may share in His glory forever.
